Is Guadalajara safe?

Guadalajara is one of Mexico’s largest cities and is a major cultural, business, dining, and travel destination. Like any large city, guests should use normal travel precautions, but there are many well-traveled areas with hotels, restaurants, shopping, and rideshare options. For guest comfort and convenience, we recommend staying in the Andares / Puerta de Hierro / Zapopan area, which is one of the nicer and more popular areas of the Guadalajara metro area. This is where many of the recommended hotels, restaurants, cafés, and shopping options are located. The U.S. Department of State notes that there are no restrictions on travel for U.S. government employees in the Guadalajara Metropolitan area, although Jalisco as a state does have a broader travel advisory and travelers should remain aware of their surroundings. To make the weekend easier, transportation will be provided from the church to the reception and back from the reception at the end of the night. For airport rides, the Rompe Hielo, Torna Boda, and personal outings, we recommend using trusted transportation options such as Uber, DiDi, official taxis, or pre-arranged rides. As with any trip, we recommend avoiding walking alone late at night, keeping valuables secure, using trusted transportation, and staying in the recommended hotel area whenever possible.
